How Lucky We Are!

How Lucky We Are!

That’s right, I’m talking about all of us who live in Oregon. We are part of a conscious community and have easy access to so many things that improve our quality of life and enhance our ability to get and stay healthy.

To start, what a wonderful summer we’ve had!! Because it is my favorite season, I am always reticent to see it end. And, every year I end up being surprised about how beautiful fall is too.

We have had such fantastic summer food to eat, much of it grown locally. What fun it’s been to go to our local farmer’s markets or buy organic from the multitude of grocery store options. We truly can be connoisseurs of high quality fresh fruits and vegetables because we live in the northwest. And, we can frequent high-quality, locally-owned, restaurants to eat fabulous meals.

We also have a wide array of ways to exercise to maintain and improve our health. We live in an area that offers all kinds of indoor and outdoor physical activities throughout the year. When we are getting our exercise outdoors, we get to revel in the beautiful scenery that surrounds us. And don’t forget to drink plenty of water every day, whether you’re exercising or not.

Too, we have access to a diverse group of professional health care practitioners to help us stay balanced and reach our fullest potential. That includes medical doctors, naturopaths, counselors, massage therapists, chiropractors, physical therapists, and acupuncturists.

It’s never too late to commit yourself to making better choices and trying new things to improve your quality of life. Utilize any of the avenues that appeal to you to get well and stay healthy. Take a holistic approach and put your health first.

We all know that the next few seasons bring the rain. One easy, supportive approach is to get your daily dose of Vitamin D. Vitamin D assists in the absorption of calcium, promoting bone mineralization. It also boosts the immune system, which is important as we approach the cold and flu season. Vitamin D has been shown to provide an important role in defending against cancer. We have high-quality supplement options available at Meridian, so just ask us about it.

And don’t forget, optimistic state of mind and gratitude for what we have can help make us happier. There is evidence that optimism can protect us against the development of chronic disease.

I hope everyone will enjoy this end of the summer and beginning of fall. We truly are the lucky ones!
